Practical Information

What is the duration of the programme and on what days will it take place?

The programme will run for a month for each group of ten volunteers. Volunteers will be working on the different sites from Monday to Wednesday, with training (e.g. first aid) on a Thursday. A typical day will involve meeting at the pick up point, having a briefing session on-site and starting work for around 10am. The day will finish at around 3.30pm, with arrival back to the pick up point for around 4.15pm.

How will the volunteers get to the sites?

Volunteers will receive expenses for bus fares to and from designated pick up points in either Mansfield or Ollerton. From the pick up points volunteers will be transported by minibus to and from the sites.

What tools will be used?

All the tools used by volunteers will be hand tools, such as loppers, pruning saws, shovels and bow saws. Tools talks will be given before any work commences to ensure the safe use of the equipment and volunteers will be monitored at all times.

What facilities will be available on-site?

As it is a natural environment, the facilities on site will be minimal. Depending on the location of the site, public toilets may be accessible at lunch times. Hot drinks will be provided free of charge at break times. Please bring a packed lunch and a cold drink with you.

Clothing requirements

All volunteers will be required to wear suitable shoes and clothing for a variety of different environmental conditions. We will lend you reflective vests and waterproof clothing, boots and wellies if you don’t have them.
